Each campus within the NU System is being asked to revisit its proposed plans for their 2021 academic calendar, in order to assure a safe and successful Spring semester.
This gives UNO a unique opportunity to explore options in making modifications to the Spring 2021 academic calendar that not only reduce risk for our campus community, but also assist students in catching up on their prerequisites or repeat courses, completing GenEd requirements and offering various opportunities for students to engage in new experiences to foster professional growth.
Student Government is seeking student feedback regarding the proposed idea of adding an additional term to the academic calendar, which would be administered in January, and is referred to as a “J-Term”.
The J-Term is a month-long term which offers students the opportunity to take a course that may not have fit into your Fall schedule to get ahead or stay on track to achieve your academic goals. If the J-term is established, students will have the option of taking a one (1), two (2), or three (3) credit hour class, depending on departmental course offerings.
Upon instituting this change, students who participate in the J-term would begin classes on January 4th and conclude with finals on January 23rd. Students who choose not to participate in the J-term would have an extended winter break, and start back in the Spring semester on January 25th.
It is important to note that in order to maintain compliance with university accreditation requirements, Spring break will be shortened by two days, March 20 - 24 (Sun-Wed), if a J-term is implemented.
Please review the following proposed Spring/Summer schedule and complete the survey for the purpose of helping us better understand student needs and opinions.
